Reunion Rehabilitation Hospitals | Sergeys Story: Recovery and…
PSS Blog

At 68 years old, Dr. Sergey, a PhD scientist in fluid mechanics and lifelong athlete, faced the unimaginable. After falling over 20+ feet while inspecting his attic, he suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including fractures to his pelvis, spine, ribs, and legs. He spent over a month in a medically induced coma, on life support and fighting for his life.

When he awoke, unable to walk and barely able to move, he was transferred to Reunion Rehabilitation Hospital Plano. From day one, Dr. Sergey was determined to regain his independence. With the help of his physical therapist, Patricio, and the expert interdisciplinary team at Reunion Plano, he slowly relearned to stand, walk, and eventually jog, which was his ultimate goal.

One of his most emotional moments occurred when he took his first steps, supported by his therapist and the constant presence of his wife, who stood by his side every day from the moment he was first admitted to the emergency room.

Thanks to his grit, the compassionate care he received, and months of hard work, Dr. Sergey is now 90–95% recovered. He has returned to his normal life, back to work and back to being active, though he jokes that he will leave attic inspections and repairs to the professionals from now on.

Dr. Sergey credits Reunion Plano for helping him reclaim his life. "The food was better, the care was better, and most of all, the people truly cared. I'm grateful to Patricio and the entire team. They didn't just help me heal, they helped me live again."
